PS5 Update – Improved Role Based Access and Permissions

Hi All,
We’ve been busy during the holiday period making improvements to Role Based Access and Permissions (small screenshot below). Here are a few things you can expect to see in the next release:
• 3 levels of assigning access – View, Modify & Admin
• These 3 levels can be assigned to an entire Password List, or just specific passwords within a Password List
• Time-based Access – access to passwords or Password Lists can automatically be removed after a set period of time, or the next time when a password is changed
• Security Groups – Access to Passwordstate, Password Lists and individual passwords can now be achieved through security groups. These can be either local security groups created within Passwordstate, or synchronized with Active Directory security groups
• We’ve also added another method by which access is approved, but we’re not revealing that one yet – it’s kind of cool ?

Thanks for the feedback. We’re hoping it will be available withing a couple of months. It’s been a long time coming, mainly due to us having to rewrite a lot of code due to the new permission structure.

Is there a way to have a “view only” user for shared password lists on 4.5? (global across all shared password lists/passwords, not per list – which I gather is the above screen shot for 5.0 release)

Hi Damian,
Unfortunately there isn’t a ‘view only’ type permission with version 4.5 of Passwordstate, but as you’ve suggested it is coming in version 5.
In version 5 there isn’t really the concept of global access across all Password Lists – you generally apply permissions list by list. It is however relatively easy to give a specific user access to all Password Lists, and you can do this via the ‘Manage Shared Password Access’ menu option when viewing users accounts in the Administration area.
